Aon strengthens Birmingham Insolvency team with appointment of Catherine Williamson

Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, has announced that its specialist UK Insolvency and Restructuring insurance and risk team, based in Birmingham, has hired Catherine Williamson to the newly created role of growth and technical director.

A highly regarded insolvency practitioner and qualified accountant for well over a quarter of a century, Catherine was most recently partner at AlixPartners in Manchester where she led the insolvency team and oversaw high-profile cases including the administrations of Thomas Cook, Indigo Michael and Cineworld.

In her new role, Catherine will focus on delivering insights and solutions to clients managing business restructuring and disruption. By bringing together the firm’s Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities, Catherine and the UK Insolvency and Restructuring team will help clients better manage risk to create greater resilience and enable future growth for clients.

Her appointment comes as the Aon team continues to experience significant growth. While the insolvency market in England and Wales has remained relatively flat in the past year, with just 1.5 percent growth, Aon’s Insolvency and Restructuring team has grown by almost 25 percent. Catherine’s unique insight into the insolvency market is intended to bolster that growth further.

Mark Sanderson, managing director of UK insolvency and restructuring at Aon, said:

“Our team is excited to work with such a well‑known insolvency practitioner. Catherine’s personality, energy and outstanding technical expertise will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our team.

“Aon’s proposition is already unique within the sector thanks to the team’s commitment to building authentic relationships with clients, based on a collaborative and tailored approach to meet their needs. Catherine’s experience will add an invaluable dimension to what we offer and position us well for continued growth.”

Catherine Williamson said:
“I’ve long admired what Mark and the Aon team achieve in insolvency and restructuring scenarios that are challenging for clients. This team stands out because of their genuine appreciation for client requirements, and I am committed to building on that reputation of success and service.”
