Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery visitor numbers increased by over 300% in 2025 according to latest ALVA figures

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery saw a 305% increase in visitor numbers in 2025, according to latest figures published by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) on 20 March 2026 during English Tourism Week.

Following the beginning of its phased reopening in October 2024 after a period of closure for essential maintenance, it welcomed 672,391 visitors through the doors last year.

This places Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery 62nd in the country and 2nd in the West Midlands for the number of visitors to ALVA members’ sites in 2025.

Blakesley Hall Museum also saw an increase in visitor numbers in 2025, coinciding with a new direction in its event programming, such as evening candlelit tours of the Tudor manor house.

The total number of visits to 409 ALVA sites in 2025 was 165 million, which was a 2% increase on the previous year but still represented a decline of 7% on the 170 million visits in 2019 to the top ALVA sites.

Sara Wajid and Zak Mensah, co-chief executive officers at Birmingham Museums Trust, said:

“We are delighted to have welcomed over 600,000 visitors to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in 2025.

“The Birmingham Museums’ Citizens’ Jury recommended that our programming and displays be more inclusive, take risks to be inspiring and serve as spaces for fun, educational and diverse experiences.

“They called for improved accessibility, better promotion and displays that reflect the city’s diverse communities.

“We hope that this approach will see even more visitors enjoying our spaces in the years to come.”
