Following the successful completion of the ambitious ‘Amplify Town Hall’ project earlier this year, we are offering visitors the chance to enjoy a backstage tour of the city’s oldest events venue and a private view of the extensive new heritage installation throughout the lower floor. They will also have the chance to view our newly installed Blue Plaque commemorating the first ever reading of ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens himself in 1853.

In addition, attendees will gain unique insights into some of the building’s most significant moments directly from the Director of Birmingham Music Archive, Jez Collins, and some of the wonderful team of passionate volunteers who helped uncover and compile the important new Town Hall archive. Events and topics covered will include the first reading of ‘A Christmas Carol’, the birth of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, becoming a bastion for the Suffragettes, and some of the earliest performances by Black Sabbath.
