Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week plays a crucial role in raising awareness of the impact ASB has on individuals and communities. It’s a time to reflect on the importance of collective action in tackling issues that affect our neighbourhoods and ensuring that everyone feels safe.
This initiative serves as a reminder that ASB isn’t just a nuisance — it undermines the fabric of ‘Colmore Life’, affecting residents’ quality of life, wellbeing, and their confidence in public spaces.
One of the key ways to combat ASB is through strong partnerships, which is why the Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) is so vital. The LCSP enables a range of partners to come together, ensuring that priorities are effectively addressed to make our communities safer, feel safer, and build trust within their neighbourhoods.
Here at Colmore BID, we’ve been fortunate to work closely with the LCSP, allowing us to actively address anti-social behaviour hotspots across the area. I’ve collaborated with West Midlands Police (WMP) and Birmingham City Council to tackle ASB through various means — whether it’s assisting with Public Space Protection Orders or training around location-based problem solving. By participating in these efforts, we’ve gained invaluable insights into the work our partners do, and it has allowed us to forge even stronger bonds in addressing community safety concerns.
Looking ahead, Colmore BID is committed to continuing our partnership with the LCSP and other local stakeholders. Together, we aim to create a cleaner, safer environment for both the Colmore Business District and the wider Birmingham City Centre.
ASB Awareness Week isn’t just about understanding the problem — it’s about empowering communities to work together to create real, lasting change. By raising awareness and working collaboratively, we can build a community where everyone feels safe and supported.
