Birmingham City Council seeks public views on iconic ‘Ramp’ at Stephenson Place

Birmingham City Council has launched a public survey inviting residents, commuters and visitors to share their views on “The Ramp,” the well‑known walkway leading into Grand Central and Birmingham New Street Station.

The consultation focuses on people’s experiences of the landmark’s cleanliness, lighting, safety and overall appearance, aiming to guide future improvements to this busy gateway into the city centre.

Located at Stephenson Place, The Ramp is one of Birmingham’s most recognisable meeting spots, frequented daily thanks to nearby businesses such as McDonald’s and HSBC and its direct connection to New Street Station and Grand Central. Despite its popularity, the area has developed a mixed reputation, with some citing discomfort or safety concerns, prompting the Council’s call for public feedback.

The short, anonymous survey takes only a few minutes to complete and forms part of the Council’s effort to better understand how people use and feel about the space. Responses will help shape potential upgrades to improve both the environment and the experience of those passing through this central Birmingham landmark.

Members of the public are encouraged to take part as soon as possible, as the Council has not specified how long the survey will remain open.
