Colmore Business District (BID) is proud to announce its central role in Birmingham Light Festival, a spectacular celebration of creativity, community, and culture that will transform the city into a dazzling display of light and innovation this February.

As a pivotal supporter, Colmore BID funds the role of the City Curator, whose vision and leadership have brought the festival’s exciting event concept to life. Alongside this, Colmore BID have funded the festival directly as a founding partner.

With funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a stunning legacy installation, ‘Alright Bab!’ will light up during the event and remain in situ after the festival ends, serving as a lasting testament to the city’s vibrant spirit.

The “Alright Bab!” light art installation celebrates Birmingham’s warm, friendly spirit, showcasing local pride through a glowing, iconic local phrase. Created in partnership with local collaborators Brumbox and Taylex Group, the installation invites visitors to experience the kindness and connection that defines the city, while highlighting the power of local partnerships in bringing this glowing artwork to life.

Matt Nation, founder of Brumbox said: “The hand painted Alright Bab! design is a cornerstone in our collection of Birmingham-inspired clothing and gifts, having made its way across the globe in the hands of proud Brummies and enamoured visitors alike. I can’t wait to see it lit up in the middle of Town for Birmingham Light Festival, and I’m sure it will brighten up people’s days for a long time to come.”

In addition, festival goers will enjoy two immersive pop-up telephone box light installations, where visitors can take their best selfie under the glowing lights of Birmingham’s urban landscape. These playful and engaging artworks reflect Colmore BID’s commitment to inspiring creativity and sparking joy in unexpected places.

Michele Wilby, CEO of Colmore BID, shared her excitement about the upcoming festival: We are thrilled to play such an integral role in the Birmingham Light Festival, a transformative event that will light up the city like we’ve never seen before. Through our funding of the City Curator role, our partnership on the legacy installation, and the iconic telephone boxes, we hope to bring light, joy, and inspiration to people across Birmingham and beyond.”

Birmingham Light Festival is taking place from 19 to the 22 February 2025, with an exciting events schedule with something for everyone to enjoy.
