Sorry About the Mess II is an exhibition by Babe Station, an evolving art and research project led by writer Millie Walton that explores the intersection of art-making and motherhood. Following the success of the original exhibition—presented in March 2025 at the former Facebook HQ in London with support from Bow Arts—the project is now presented at Birmingham School of Art Gallery.The previous exhibition brought together more than 20 artists and writers who are also mothers, exploring “mess” as an aesthetic, an obstacle, and a revolutionary mode of making. The original presentation received widespread acclaim, including coverage in The Art Newspaper, and attracted hundreds of visitors.The Birmingham iteration expands the project through an open call, bringing together new voices, including students, alumni, and artist-mothers connected to the University. Foregrounding caregiving as a vital and visible part of creative practice, inviting audiences to reflect on the relationships between artistic production, labour, and care.Opening event 6th October 11am for parents and caregivers including refreshments and workshop, 5pm evening opening including refreshments and artist performancesBabe Station live 20th October 5pm performance + readings eventhttps://www.babestation.org.uk/

Stitching Stories: What We Love About the Museum Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery Sat 29 Aug
Join us for a relaxed, creative session inspired by the beautiful tapestry work of artist Tina Francis. As we stitch together, we’ll be sharing and celebrating all the things we love about the museum, from favourite objects to special memories.Families are invited to take part in a simple, hands-on activity where children can draw or write their thoughts on leaf-shaped pieces of paper. Come along, get involved, and help us create a collective artwork full of colour, stories, and imagination!This event is part of What We Make Here, a six-week series of family-friendly workshops led by Birmingham-based artists, inviting participants of all ages to explore making, materials, and creative expression together.
The Brummie Pre-Raphaelite: A Celebration of Edward Burne-Jones
Come celebrate the Birthday of Birmingham’s very own Pre-Raphaelite – Edward Burne-Jones – lets take a closer look at the art he created, his impact on the Pre-Raphaelite movement and the city itself.We will be following in the footsteps of one of Burne-Jones super fans – Bernard Sleigh, a student from the School of Art in the early 20th century. Sleigh was so moved by Burne-Jones’ The Star of Bethlehem, he laid flowers in front of the painting every year on 28th August.
