Birmingham Colmore and Colmore Life are brands owned and operated by Colmore Business District Ltd, a Business Improvement District (BID) made possible by businesses located in Colmore which constantly invest in making it a better place.
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a not-for-profit organisation where local businesses, set by a geographically bound area, work together to make their area thrive.
Every five years, businesses in the area vote to elect the BID and agree on a Business Plan that sets out shared goals.
If elected, the BID is funded for the five-year term by a small levy, applied on top of business rates, which goes straight back into projects and services that benefit Colmore Business District — things like safety, cleanliness, events, and creating a vibrant, welcoming place for everyone.
In short, a BID gives businesses a stronger voice and the power to shape the future of their place and local community.
Your BID levy is a small contribution that businesses make to help fund improvements and services in the District. It’s calculated as a percentage (1.5%) of your rateable value and is taken on top of your business rates. This means the amount you pay, and who pays it depends on the size, ownership and value of your property – so everyone contributes fairly.
Contributions are capped at £35,000 on the percentage of your business rates, and small businesses that fall under a certain business rate threshold are exempt from contributing financially.
Every penny goes straight back into projects and services that benefit Colmore, from safety and cleanliness to events and business support. It’s a simple way for us all to invest in a better, brighter Colmore Business District.

We are not part of Birmingham City Council. Birmingham Colmore is an independent, non-for-profit limited company. We work closely with Birmingham City Council to deliver our goals.
Birmingham City Council is responsible for collecting your BID levy (via Business Rates payments) and allocating those funds directly to us.

You may be part of another BID located in Birmingham. There are five other BIDs currently delivering across the city-centre (Jewellery Quarter, Southside, Westside, Digbeth and Central).
