Statement: Birmingham City Centre Incident (27/03/26)

We are deeply saddened to hear about the shocking incident that took place in Birmingham city centre in the early hours of 27 March 2026. Our thoughts are with the women affected, and with everyone in our community who feels the impact of such violence. The full statement from West Midlands Police statement can be found here.

West Midlands Police have confirmed that specialist officers are reviewing CCTV, taking witness statements, and building a clearer picture of what happened. Det Insp Matthew Owen described these as “terrifying attacks on women who were just enjoying a night out in Birmingham city centre,” and has urged the public to come forward with any information.

In support of the police appeal, we echo the call for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, no matter how small, to contact West Midlands Police. This includes motorists and taxi drivers who may have dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.

At Birmingham Colmore, we care profoundly about the safety and wellbeing of women and girls. Tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains a central priority for us. Through our Safer Colmore programme, we continue to invest in safety initiatives, partnerships, training, environmental improvements, and awareness campaigns designed to make the district safer for all. This incident reinforces why that work matters so deeply.

We will continue working closely with the police and our partners to ensure the Colmore area is a place where women feel safe, supported, and protected.

If you have information that may help the investigation, please contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log 126.
