District Dressing plays a vital role in shaping how Colmore feels throughout the year.
Funded through the Birmingham Colmore levy through Colmore Placemaking and Colmore Marketing, we create a place where people want to work, visit and do business.
The floral features, Christmas lights and flags you see in the District are delivered by us, supported by additional digital displays and public‑realm enhancements throughout the year.
Since 2009, we’ve contributed to greening the area, and since 2014 the levy has fully funded all floral schemes across the District. We invest nearly £40,000 annually in our summer flower scheme, bringing hanging baskets, railing boxes and tall flower towers to key streets.
Through our Colmore Placemaking Working Group, we’ve consistently championed urban greening, not only because it enhances the look and feel of our city, but because research shows that greener streets experience lower levels of anti‑social behaviour.
We always love seeing the District through your eyes. If you enjoy and capture the florals while you’re out and about, please share your images with us.
Every winter, Colmore is transformed with over 100 festive lighting features installed across our streets. We also install three Christmas trees in key locations — Colmore Square, Church Street Square and Snow Hill Square, adding sparkle during the darker months and help create a welcoming environment over the Christmas period.
Flags brighten up our District’s urban environment throughout the year. We install themed flag displays to mark major moments, including:
These displays help support District identity, highlight key events and add vibrancy to the streetscape.
Alongside our floral, flag and lighting schemes, we also use digital screens and other temporary installations to promote events and celebrate local activity.
