On Thursday 18 June, businesses, workers and visitors across Birmingham will come together to support Clean Air Day 2026 – the UK’s largest campaign dedicated to tackling air pollution and creating healthier places to live and work.
To mark the day, Birmingham Colmore, with support from Birmingham City Council, has produced a practical Clean Air Day guide for organisations and individuals across the district. The downloadable resource highlights why air quality remains one of the UK’s biggest environmental health challenges, while showcasing the progress being made across Birmingham and the steps we can all take to make a difference.
The guide explores local air quality data, sustainable travel options into the city centre, common myths about pollution and simple actions employers can encourage within their organisations. It also highlights the benefits of active travel, which can improve wellbeing, reduce congestion and help create a cleaner, more accessible city centre for everyone.
As part of Clean Air Day (Thursday 18 June) Birmingham Colmore is also hosting a free Dr Bike service at Snow Hill Square between 10am and 3pm, offering cyclists a complimentary safety check and a light-touch service to help keep bikes roadworthy and ready to ride.
While Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone and wider investment in active travel infrastructure are delivering positive results, improving air quality remains a shared responsibility. Whether it’s walking, cycling, taking public transport or simply starting conversations about cleaner travel choices, every action contributes to healthier air for our communities.
