BID joins forces with martial arts expert to offer free self-defence sessions

Colmore BID has joined forces with internationally acclaimed martial artist and teacher Fay Goodman to offer members free self-defence classes throughout the autumn.

Fay – author of the bestselling ‘The Ultimate Book of Martial Arts’ – teaches positive and easily accessible ways to increase self-confidence, awareness and assertiveness. Her self-defence courses provide simple and effective personal safety skills and techniques to empower people of all ages and abilities in their everyday lives.

Personal safety has so many benefits from increasing well-being, confidence and awareness to a healthier lifestyle through increased physical activity and ability. Mental health concerns are also addressed by encouraging practitioners to learn how to remain calm, use correct breathing techniques and accept any disappointment in a more positive and accepting way. This helps to reduce anxiety and stress – a major health concern both at home and at work.

In Fay’s special self-defence course for Colmore BID members – which last 90 minutes and take place the first Wednesday of every month from August through to December – participants learn how to combine their verbal and physical strengths to cope with many challenging scenarios and how to enhance and trust their intuition to prevent or manage events as they arise.

Fay’s sessions are taking part on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, August 7, 5.30pm to 7pm, Wesleyan, Colmore Circus Queensway
  • Wednesday, September 4, 5.30pm to 7pm, venue to be confirmed
  • Wednesday, October 2, 5.30pm to 7pm, venue to be confirmed
  • Wednesday, November 6, 5.30pm to 7pm, venue to be confirmed
  • Wednesday, December 4, 5.30pm to 7pm, venue to be confirmed

To book your 90 minutes session email Colmore BID’s Street Operations Manager John-Jo Von Johnson.

Fay also offers a range of flexible full and half-day ‘Safe and Sound’ courses,  specially tailored to groups of up to 25 people. For further information about these courses email Fay Goodman.
