Food Festival shortlisted in first ever Independent Birmingham Awards

Colmore Food Festival has made the finals of a brand new awards ceremony celebrating Birmingham’s thriving independent scene.

The popular annual festival, which has been sponsored by law firm DWF for the last two years, showcases the best of food and drink from Colmore Business District’s burgeoning hospitality sector, has been shortlisted in the Best Local Event category in the first-ever Independent Birmingham Awards.

Announced earlier this year, the Independent Birmingham Awards champion the city’s independent businesses across the leisure and hospitality, cultural and retail sectors. Competition was fierce with over 800 nominations submitted across 15 categories for the inaugural awards ceremony, which is taking place at The Custard Factory on Monday, September 9.

The nominations have been whittled down to 75 finalists made up of a mixture of long-established and new and up and coming venues, and also including a special category of individuals who are ambassadors for the city.

Colmore Food Festival, on the shortlist of five for the Best Local Event category, is now in its ninth year. The two-day festival attracts over 30,000 visitors every year and the 2019 event, which took place on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July, 6, was made up of 28 exhibitors – including three new participating venues – with all food capped at £4 and drinks at £5. Entertainment was provided in the form of live music acts, including the Aston Performing Parts Academy and the Voice of the Town Birmingham choir.

A number of other venues from across the District have also made the Independent Birmingham awards shortlist. They are the Liquor Store (Best Retailer), Damscena and Wayland’s Yard (Best Coffee Shop), Loki Wine and Pinchos (Best Wine Bar), Adam’s (Best Fine Dining Restaurant) and Pint Shop (Best Pub/Taproom).

Winners will be announced on Monday, September 9.
