Residents, businesses, community groups and anyone who has an interest in the future of Birmingham can submit comments on the new Local Plan from Thursday 13th August to Thursday 24th September 2026. The Publication Plan proposes a Development Strategy, focusing growth in 16 Growth Zones and sets out planning policies for how land will be used in the city up to 2044.
The Plan includes policies on matters like affordable housing, the natural and historic environments, sustainability and climate change and infrastructure requirements to support development. However, the plan does not propose any sites/locations for development in the Green Belt and the existing Green Belt boundaries remain unchanged.
The Publication Plan was approved by the City Council Cabinet on 28 July and due to the Plan having reached its final stage, comments must be submitted to the Council using a standard form. Members of the public can submit comments here.
The Council will send all submitted representations to the Inspector appointed by the Planning Inspectorate and used as part of their examination of the new Plan. The examination will take place in 2027 and updates on the examination will be made available on the Council website: https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/birminghamplan
