Safer Colmore Community Support

Community Support

Community Support Team

Birmingham Colmore’s Community Support Team provides a highly visible, approachable and reassuring presence across the District, working to support the street community and enhance safety for businesses, workers and visitors.

The team consists of a Head of Service, Senior Community Support Officer and four Community Support Officers, operating Monday to Friday, 7am–7pm. Birmingham Colmore’s Community Support Team focuses on engagement, prevention and partnership working rather than enforcement.

The team works closely with key partners, including West Midlands Police, Birmingham City Council and other local agencies to help address crime, anti-social behaviour and public place concerns. Officers regularly respond to reports of anti-social behaviour and provide on-the-ground support to businesses and the wider street community.

In addition, the team delivers safety and awareness talks within businesses across Birmingham Colmore, offering practical advice and support to help staff feel safe and confident in their working environment.

Supporting Vulnerable People

Birmingham Colmore recognises the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness or vulnerability in the city centre. The Community Support Team plays an important role in engaging with individuals who are rough sleeping or begging, offering reassurance to the wider community while ensuring those in need are directed towards appropriate help.

Team members are trained to signpost vulnerable individuals to specialist support services, helping them access accommodation, healthcare, advice and longer-term assistance aimed at improving wellbeing and supporting sustainable outcomes.

Where appropriate, the team works alongside partner organisations to ensure a coordinated and compassionate response to public place vulnerability.
